What was your experience when dealing with your rehabilitation counselor? Were they accomodating to your needs? Did they give you all the things you needed for school, or did they denny you?
I had 2 and they were both lazy! Had to always fight with them to pay my tuishion, get equipment and heck after I got my degree, there was no job placement class to assist me in finding a job. Now when I went to Carolina, they helped as much as I could even though I worked at an agency for the blind. Now I came to Michigan, and they wouldn't even give me molibility because I again work in an agency for the blind. That is crazy how do you denigh someone O and M training? These are just my experiences, I hope yours a lot better!
My rehabilitation counselor showed me some effort that she wanted to help me, but they haven’t done anything yet. She told me that I was eligible for a lot of equipment and educational services, but they never gave me a single thing. They just made me wait for nothing. Its been a long time since I asked for their help, and so far nothing has happened yet. They denied me because I failed to give them my immigration status, and their holding it against me. Now, I don’t even know if I’ll be able to find a way to pay my tuition for the next semester.
Its a shame that someone that really wants to work hard and studdy has to constantly fight for services that we are entitled to. Keep calling go hire up but you have to fight. I was almost not given my grades 3 times because they failed to pay the college in time. Talk about panic!! I wonder if these people that hold our lives in their hands really understand blindness and our needs??
Hello, no one would understand until they are in the person’s shoes. You can only do so much, but sometimes, no matter how hard you try, it never works. Chase student loans approved my credit to loan a large amount of money for college. They approved my credit without a co signer probably because I have a good credit record. But they wouldn’t send the money to the college unless I send them a copy of my permanent residence card. I have to register for classes for the following semester, but I’m not even sure if I’ll be able to. So basically, three people turned me down the same the rehabilitation services, the student loans at Chase bank, and my mom. I’m almost screwed. My determination and persistence to continue my education is not enough because at this point, I already tried asking help from different sources, but no one would help me. If I get that job, the money will never be enough to pay the whole thing.
I wonder if there is a special organization that helps people from other countries. I can't believe your the only one that has had this happen to. This really sucks, because its clear you want to get educated and so many others don't. I assume your a citizen?? sorry if I am being personal, just wonder how someone can assist you in getting the services your entitled to.
